Fraud prevention

With the rise in digital scams and phishing attempts, it is important to know how to avoid falling victim to them. We encourage all users to know how to identify and avoid phishing scams.

Signs of a phishing scam

Typos

Many phishing attempts contain spelling and grammatical errors, as scammers don’t usually put their content through professional copywriters.

Suspicious links and attachments

Phishing messages contain harmful links and attachments to extract your personal data or install malware. These links contain misspellings of real websites or are hosted on suspicious and unsecured domains.

Urgency

Creating a sense of urgency, fear, or excitement to manipulate you into acting quickly is a common scam tactic. They want you to panic, so you give your details and complete a transaction quickly without thinking.

Promises of easy money

Impersonating profiles will claim you have won money and ask for your password or bank number. Deriv never asks for your personal or financial details through social media, nor do we do giveaways/promotions.

Unknown senders

Phishing attempts are from email addresses and social media profiles similar to ours but contain misspellings in their names. Only trust info posted from the social media profiles listed at the bottom of our website.

Best practices to avoid phishing scams

Don’t click links quickly

Hover your cursor over the URL before clicking on it to see the link. If the link doesn't match our domain or looks suspicious, don't click on it.

Don’t download files

Don’t open attachments with extensions like .exe, .com, .bat, and .scr., unless you are expecting them. These types of files can contain malware.

Don’t act immediately

Don’t make payments or give personal info if you are urged to. We will reach out to you via emails ending in @deriv.com, info.deriv.com, or via live chat if needed.

Don’t share personal info

Never share personal details without verifying the sender. All confidential matters are done via WhatsApp or live chat with our Customer Support team.

Don’t answer messages

Block unknown calls, report suspicious emails, and contact our Customer Support team if you come across suspicious profiles on social media.

Don’t be afraid to ask

Contact us via live chat if you are unsure about an email or social media profile, and we’ll verify if it is from Deriv.
